Historic Hotel Electrical Renovation in San Francisco
Max Electric upgraded the electrical layout inside a historic hotel built in 1914, adding new circuits, countertop outlets, outlet replacements, outlet relocation, and lighting improvements while preserving the finished interior.
San Francisco Sutter St, San Francisco

A practical electrical upgrade for a historic San Francisco building
Renovating an older hotel is different from working in a blank commercial space. The electrical system has to support modern use, but every outlet, wire path, fixture, and visible detail must respect the character of the building.
For this Sutter Street project, Max Electric improved power access and lighting throughout renovated areas of a hotel originally built in 1914. The work included new electrical circuit installation, countertop outlet installation, outlet replacement, outlet relocation, and lighting replacement.
The key priority was keeping the final installation clean. Our team planned wiring routes around brick walls, stone surfaces, and finished counter areas so the result looked intentional instead of added as an afterthought.

What the property needed
The hotel needed modern electrical functionality in renovated areas, but the finished appearance of the historic interior had to stay clean and consistent.
Better power access
Counter areas and renovated spaces needed more convenient outlet access for modern use.
Updated lighting
Lighting improvements were needed to support the renovation and improve the finished space.
Minimal visual impact
The work had to be completed without making the electrical installation feel exposed, bulky, or out of place.

Historic Building Electrical Work
The installation was planned around older materials, finished surfaces, and the visual character of the property.

Working around brick, stone, and finished historic surfaces
Brick and stone leave very little room for casual changes. Every cut, wire path, outlet position, and visible finish detail matters. The challenge was to complete the required electrical upgrades while keeping the renovated hotel interior visually clean and historically appropriate.
Careful wiring routes
Wiring paths were planned to stay as concealed and unobtrusive as possible around difficult surfaces.
Clean device placement
Outlet locations were selected with both usability and appearance in mind, especially along visible counter areas.
Low-visibility finish
The completed work supports modern electrical needs without distracting from the historic character of the space.

Just as importantly, the work did not overwhelm the building’s historic character. Wiring was concealed where possible, outlets were placed carefully, and the final installation looked professional rather than improvised.
More functional layout
New and relocated outlets gave the renovated spaces better everyday usability.
Cleaner finish
Electrical devices and wiring routes were handled with attention to the finished appearance.
Historic-sensitive work
